These terms are often used loosely in supplier correspondence. We use them as IEEE C57.12.90 defines them, and the quotation states explicitly which tests are included.

Routine tests apply to each transformer as built. They are the evidence that the specific unit shipping to your site meets its guaranteed values.

Type tests characterise a design. A type test certificate demonstrates that a design was proven — it says nothing about the individual transformer arriving at your site.

Worth pinning down before award
If a supplier offers you a single "test report" without saying whether it is a routine test of your unit or a type test of the design, ask which. It is the most common ambiguity in transformer bid documentation, and the difference matters.
Performed when the purchaser specifies them
Special tests are those your specification calls for beyond the routine and type sequences. They are quoted individually rather than assumed.

Where your standard specification names a test by a different name, or adds one, we confirm it clause by clause at quotation rather than assuming equivalence. You get an explicit list of exceptions, not a blanket conformity claim.

Independent witnessing as standard, plus your own inspector
Customer or appointed witness
You are welcome to attend, or to appoint your own inspection agency to attend on your behalf. We will schedule testing to accommodate attendance and provide reasonable notice of the test date.
We offer this without being asked because, for a first order from a new supplier, it is usually the most useful assurance available — and it costs us nothing to extend.

Where testing sits in the sequence
The documentation schedule and test plan are agreed and dated at order placement, so submittal dates are contractual rather than informal. Nothing about testing is left to be negotiated once the unit is already built.

Guarantees
Loss guarantees and liquidated damages
No-load and load loss values are guaranteed in the quotation and backed by liquidated-damages language, measured against the routine test results for the specific unit.
This is what makes the figures usable in a loss-evaluated bid: they are contractual values verified by a test on the transformer you are buying, not design estimates carried across from another unit.

Issued with each unit
Supplied as standard:
- Routine test certificates per IEEE C57.12.90, issued against each serial number
- Independent third-party inspection report covering factory acceptance testing
- Guaranteed loss values as quoted, stated alongside the measured test results
Drawing and manual deliverables — outline and general arrangement drawings, nameplate drawing, wiring diagrams, installation and maintenance documentation, and any submittal schedule your specification requires — are confirmed as a documentation schedule at order placement.
Certifications
Manufacturing quality certifications are held by the manufacturing facility, not by AxionOrbital Space Inc. We do not present factory certifications as our own.
Where a purchaser requires evidence of the facility's quality system, we will obtain and provide the current certificate as part of the bid response.
